Dr. Dalton's Blog-Chiropractic's Role in Travel Wellness
Traveling can be a time for relaxation and enjoyment, but can also induce mental and physical stress and lead to poor health decisions. Mental stressors such as preparing for a trip, packing, and getting your home in order can lead to the body tensing up to prepare for surprises and maintain focus while staying alert. Then, the travel process whether it be via plane or car, can lead to physical stress due to muscles and joints tightening up with the lack of motion during that time period. So we encourage individuals to keep a towel or sweatshirt with them that they can roll up and place behind their neck or lower back to help relieve pressure off of the joints and nerves while maintaining proper spinal curve.
Another physical stressor is the intake of alcohol and food that people don’t normally consume, along with a lack of sleep which puts the body in a state of toxicity that inhibits the ability for the body to get the relaxation effects people seek from vacation or travel. Lastly, getting adjusted by your chiropractor before and after your trip will help your joints and muscles stay hydrated and healthy with proper motion along with helping your body regulate sleep patterns which will reduce stress during and after your trip.
